Pipeline Leak Detection and Location Determination
Assessment of Leak Location
Operators can use SEEPER TRACE leak detection service for periodic pipeline integrity assessments or to locate a suspected release. Integrity assessments are particularly useful for prioritizing responses when problems are indicated by inventory discrepancies and data from smart pigging and close interval surveys. This test, when used in conjunction with pigging or hydrotesting, is particularly economical.
Quick and Cost-Effect Leak Identification
A seep as small as one-gallon-per-day can be detected – with no service interruption or excavation required. The pipeline is first inoculated with a small amount of tracer chemical and then the SEEPER TRACE instrument is drug along the surface above, where it detects the presence of the tracer chemical if a leak exists. This technology offers the flexibility of either walking the instrument over-the-ground above the pipeline or attaching it to a vehicle, terrain permitting, thereby making rapid results even easier to obtain. SEEPER TRACE leak detection service works without the insertion of probes.
SEEPER TRACE® and TRACER TIGHT® Technologies
The TRACER TIGHT leak detection technology is available for a wide range of applications, including aboveground storage tanks (ASTs), underground storage tanks (USTs) and buried piping. The Tracer Tight technology is one of the most accurate and sensitive leak detection and location technologies available. This technology is capable of satisfying most state regulatory requirements, and can be used as a compliance, consent decree, due diligence, or pinpointing tool. It even exceeds U.S. EPA requirements for precision tightness testing for USTs. Leaks as small as 1 gallon per day (0.05 gph) can be detected without interruption or excavation.
Linde Services Inc. also offers the SEEPER TRACE pipeline leak location service for long-distance pipelines. This commercially available technology quickly and cost-effectively locates leaks in buried pipelines that carry liquids, gases or multi-phase products. A leak as small as 2.5 gallons per day can be detected without service interruption or excavation.
